STUMPED and couldn't sleep. I have a S&W Revolver given to me in the 1990's. It has never been fired since I have owned it. It shows significant holster and carry wear but is in good shape. Inside the cylinder are the following markings: Serial number MOD 18-4 C11 12717 What would be the value of this revolver? The Model 18 22 Combat Masterpiece is the same gun, other than caliber, as the Model 15 Combat Masterpiece, which is a.38 Special and was long the issue gun for many LE agencies, including LAPD.
A 1981 manufacture puts it near the end of the real pyramid of super high quality S&Ws. This would be an outstanding shooter, recoil would be next to nothing with.22 out of a two and a half pound gun, and would fetch a relatively nice price. I can also think of at least a dozen members here, myself included, who would step all over themselves to put up an 'I'll Take It' were it to show up for sale.
They are great shooting guns and due to tight chambers and barrel cylinder gap, they like the the cheap Fedaral bulk stuff that is copper plated. If you shoot high velocity stuff like mini mags, extraction can be a pain, non copper plated and your cylinder will start dragging on the end of the barrel after 50 rounds or so. Fuji Box 9100 Hyper Software Update there. Here is the example I picked up about 4-5 years ago along with a 17-3. The 18 in the picture is exactly that, a model 18 no dash with a 4 screw frame. It came with the original number service style stocks but I prefer to shoot it with target style grips.
